In science we have been finding out what is the best way to separate two materials using various tools.
There were 4 mixtures that we had to separate from each other we carried out these operations to help the shop manager to resort his goods after a mix up on the lorry.
We had to separate raisins from flour, the best tool to use was a sieve because the flour is made up of small particles and the raisins are made of much bigger particles than raisins therefore they will not fit through, one mixture sorted.
The next mixture was paper clip sand rice. This was most probably the most easiest mixture to sort we simply used a magnet to remove the paperclips as they are magnetic.
One of the other mixtures was sand and water we simply filtered it through a funnel with a paper towel over the top to stop the sand from filtering through.
Also we had to separate salt from water which was probably the hardest, the way to separate them is...
Simply heat them up so the water evaporates which will leave behind the salt.
