  • Black History Month

Thu 20 Oct 2022 Mr Best

Throughout October, the children have been recognising and celebrating Black History Month at Bodriggy. There has been a real buzz around the school, with children listening to history making music from a whole range of black artists, as well creating whole class artworks of influential black individuals.

Lots of children also took part in the whole school challenge to create a poster about a significant black individual and the effort that was put into each piece was overwhelming – which made it incredibly difficult to choose two winners! Each poster was informative and unique, and a great personal expression of each child.

After much deliberation, the KS1 award went to Sena Suliman and her wonderful poster of Dame Shirley Bassey, and the KS2 award to Emma Cortes with her super poster of Mae Jemison.

Thank you once again to ALL the children in Bodriggy for embracing Black History Month and recognizing its significance and relevance – you have done yourselves and your community proud.

  • Harvest Assembly: making a difference

    Wed 19 Oct 2022

Thank you so much to our families for your harvest contributions. We had a lovely assembly today where the children learned about different harvest produce and the origins of each. We also sang, 'Cauliflowers Fluffy' and a new favourite: 'I'll be driving tractors' (Thank you Mrs. Hocking!). After the assembly, Miss Carroll and Mrs. Williams went with some of our UKS2 School Council members to donate the food to the Hayle Food Bank. Carol, one of the volunteers, showed the children around the stores of food, explaining how parcels are created. She also highlighted how important it is that we all work together to look after everyone in our community; a message that is so important, especially through this winter. Thanks to Carol and her team of volunteers and thanks to you for your generosity!

  • First Football Fixture of the Season

    Tue 18 Oct 2022

On Tuesday, our Y5&6 Boys Football team played their first fixture of the year. I know how excited they were before the match and they could not have performed better, winning 7-0! This represents quite an improvement for many of the team who spent last year battling hard but ultimately losing most of our fixtures to well-established teams. I was proud of the boys' support for each other and recognition that we should reduce our team numbers to create a more even and beneficial experience for both sides. With three year 5s in the team and another three waiting to join our squad, the future looks good for football at Bodriggy. Thanks to Mr. Shilton for his coaching and well done to the boys!

  • The Cross-Country Season Begins

    Mon 17 Oct 2022

It has been a very busy week for our sports teams. On Monday, 19 children went to Mounts Bay to run in the first Penwith Cross Country League. The first race can be a bit of shock to the system but our children’s weekly efforts at Cross Country Club are really paying off. We are so proud of all of them for their persistence and high-quality running. In particular, the year 6 children deserve huge praise for completing a course that was 3 large laps, totalling 2km! As someone who has been watching them improve over the last year, it was wonderful to see them not only completing the run but now being able to compete, and the year 6 boys, led by Alfie in 2nd, Oscar in 6th and Harry in 9th provide a wonderful example to the rest of our team; if you practise in the right way, you’ll improve! We can’t wait for the next race at Hayle Academy next half term. Well done everyone!

  • KS1 Explore the Locality

Fri 14 Oct 2022 Miss Carroll

Key Stage 1 children have a lovely time this week, walking through Hayle, observing the seasonal changes taking place. They explored puddles, plants, the weather and even turned their hand at using similes to describe the various things they encountered. As a treat for super behaviour they had a quick run around the park, showing how kind and inclusive they can be. They were a shining example of how Bodriggy children behave, which was commented on by many members of the public

  • Forest School Fridays are Back!

Fri 07 Oct 2022 Mr Wood

    Nursery & Reception!
Today we resumed our forest school Fridays with some marshmallow roasting around the fire and soup making and tasting. A yummy day! Have a great weekend and enjoy this lovely autumnal weather if you can.

  • Silver Stories

Fri 07 Oct 2022 Mrs Richings

Another new reading initiative this year is the launch of ’Silver Stories’.

Silver listeners sign up if they would like to receive a phone call from a silver reader every week. During the call, the silver reader reads a story or poem aloud. This benefits both parties as the reader gets to practise their reading aloud skills, and the listener gets a regular phone call from a young person, which gives them something to look forward to. As well as the reading, there is time to chat and develop a friendship over the phone.

Grace and Henri have been chosen initially, and other pupils will get a chance to take part throughout the year. Both girls were nervous to begin with, but said how much they enjoyed the experience. Well done girls; what a lovely thing to do.

  • The first netball festival of the year

Thu 06 Oct 2022 Miss Wicks

We had our first sporting fixture today. Our netball teams went to Hayle Academy to play against other Hayle-based schools in a tournament.

One team came first and the other team came third! All children were absolutely brilliant in their attitude and behaviour. They made us feel very proud to be part of Bodriggy.

  • The launch of Secret Reader

Thu 06 Oct 2022 Mrs Richings

Reading is very important at Bodriggy, and we are always looking for new ways to make it even more important and exciting. Today we welcomed our first Secret Reader into school. Each class is going to welcome a Secret Reader into class every half term to read to the class at the end of the day.

Today, Mrs Richings’ class were delighted to see Mrs Quinn walk through the door as their Secret Reader. Mrs Quinn read her favourite poems to the class, which was perfect as today is National Poetry Day. What a treat!

If you would like to be a Secret Reader for a class, then please email staff, via the office, stating which class you would like to read in and we can get you booked in. You can either bring in a book of your choice, or the class teacher will provide a book for you.
