Happy children, achieving together.
Key Stage 1 are currently learning how to play the recorder. Through this unit the children are learning to read and follow notes across the stave. They are learning about crotchets, minims and semibreves. We follow the Charanga music scheme for the recorder lessons, using the Blown Away Songbook 1. The children are looking forward to performing to their parents before the Easter holidays.
Last term, children composed their own weather themed pieces of music inspired by Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. They used seasonal themed symbols to create their musical scores. They then chose a piece of tuned or un-tuned percussion to represent their symbols as they brought their compositions to life. The children learnt about: teamwork, beat, tempo, dynamics, composing and performing.
Across all of their learning, singing is used as a way to help children to learn, embed and remember. Ask our children about oceans and continents and they will sing you the answer!
