Participation

We are delighted to announce that we have achieved the School Games Gold Mark Award for the 2022/23 academic year.

The School Games Mark is a government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust, to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are very pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.

Intra-School

At Bodriggy, we have lots of opportunities for participation and competition in sport. Our teams of Year 6 Sports Leaders run phase competitions in school. These have been very successful this year and the children have loved the chance to take part in friendly competition in both familiar and new sports.

Below, you can see the Year 5 and 6s enjoying an afternoon of hockey, tag rugby and handball matches and the Year 3 and 4s enjoying hockey, basketball and handball. The children chose which sport they’d like to take part in, were divided into teams, were lead by a team captain, and played a round robin of games. Teams and individuals were rewarded at the end for showing good sportsmanship, something we value highly at Bodriggy.

National Orienteering Week

We celebrated National Orienteering Week in 2023 by holding phase competitions on a course set up around our school field. Run by our Y6 Sports Leaders, each phase group came out at lunchtime to complete the course. It was the first time many of the children had done orienteering and they really enjoyed trying something new.

Bodriggy World Cup

To celebrate the World Cup, the children in Year 5/6 took part in their own version of the sporting event. They chose to either be a part of a football or netball competition and were put into country teams. It was competitive, but prizes were also awarded to those who showed the best sportsmanship!

Inter-School

Many of our children have had the opportunity to take part in inter-school competitions this year. We have had teams represent Bodriggy in football, netball, tennis, athletics, tag rugby, cross-country, swimming bowls and multi-skills events. We have been very proud of the children who have shown good teamwork and sportsmanship throughout.

Here is our 2023-2024 netball team at their first fixture of the year. They are taking part in a league with local Penwith schools. There were smiles and support throughout their first two matches!

As a school, we enter lots of Cornwall School Games events throughout the year. Here is our enthusiastic Quadkids athletics team, who did very well in a variety of running, jumping and throwing events!

Tennis

Our Year 5/6 tennis team put on a spectacular performance in a tennis tournament at Penzance Tennis Club. The children were selected from our tennis club and did brilliantly when putting the skills they had learnt into a competitive situation. We have some talented tennis players!

Here are our netball teams, who competed in a tournament against other local schools. It was our first fixture of the 2022-2023 season and they did brilliantly: one team came first and the other team came third! All children were absolutely brilliant in their attitude and behaviour. They made us feel very proud to be part of Bodriggy.

Some Year 3 and 4 children taking part in a Cornwall School Games multi-skills festival.

Sports Days

We love Sports Day at Bodriggy. Children take part in phase groups. They participate in a carousel of activities, then finish with running races - an obstacle course, sprint and long-distance run. It is always great fun and it is so lovely to see all children taking part, with family and friends supporting from the side lines!
