Approaches to support pupils with SEND

Why learn another language?

Learning another language;

  • Encourages curiosity about and respect for other cultures and enables children to understand their place in the wider world.
  • Enables children to explore and apply strategies to improve their learning- encouraging independence and resilience that can be used across all areas of learning.
  • Encourages children to draw comparisons between French and English grammar, syntax and sentence structure, as a tool for developing their understanding of both languages.
  • Improves the brain’s ability to direct and manage attention- improving thinking skills, memory abilities and the brain’s natural ability to focus.
  • Provides opportunities for singing, games and group work.
  • Encourages children to find enjoyment in learning another language through having a go with their peers.
  • Provides fun, pride and a sense of achievement at all stages- whether it be a word or a full sentence, either spoken or written!
  • Opens the door to a wide range of possibilities and job opportunities.

We are a 'Go Cornish' School - working to keep the Cornish language alive.
