Intent, Implementation and Impact Statement

Why learn another language?

Learning another language;

Encourages curiosity about and respect for other cultures and enables children to understand their place in the wider world.
Enables children to explore and apply strategies to improve their learning- encouraging independence and resilience that can be used across all areas of learning.
Encourages children to draw comparisons between French and English grammar, syntax and sentence structure, as a tool for developing their understanding of both languages.
Improves the brain’s ability to direct and manage attention- improving thinking skills, memory abilities and the brain’s natural ability to focus.
Provides opportunities for singing, games and group work.

Encourages children to find enjoyment in learning another language through having a go with their peers.
Provides fun, pride and a sense of achievement at all stages- whether it be a word or a full sentence, either spoken or written!
Opens the door to a wide range of possibilities and job opportunities.

European Day of Languages European Day of Languages has been celebrated on the 26th September every year since 2001. It gives us the opportunity to celebrate and promote language learning and diversity across Europe. Here at Bodriggy, each class had a different European country to find out about. The children enjoyed some lovely activities linked to this such as food tasting, finding the coutry on the map, creating flags, taking part in a whole class ‘Quizizz’, listening to native stories and, of course, learning a bit of the language! Thank you to everyone who took part and helped to make it such a lovely day!
