  • Family Carols Around the Christmas Tree.

    Tue 19 Dec 2023

It has been a wonderful season of festive singing, led by the Bodriggy singers, but with every child having the chance to take part in one of our performances.

Beginning with the EYFS Nativity, through the KS1 play, Y3&4 sing-a-long and finishing with Y5&6's VE Day/Christmas celebration event, everyone has worked so hard to make sure each event was a triumph in its own way. I'm sure you enjoyed whichever you were able to see

but in reality, we put on these events for the children, to help them to become part of a team, to become brave enough to take the lead, to share in something special, to see the effect it has on those of us lucky enough to watch, and to leave everyone involved with memories that will last. In addition, all this rehearsal means that our children are so familiar with the songs and carols that they almost become a mobile Christmas jukebox, and in particular, it has been lovely to take the choir to a number of events this year. It began with the Light Parade but they were also invited to sing at St. Julia's Hospice, as well as singing at the Day Centre yesterday. The choir is growing each year, as is the impact they are having across the town. Yesterday, the whole school came together for a chance to sing some of our favourites in a whole school assembly. No rehearsal was needed, and no audience was there: it was simply a chance to sing together for the love of it. Topping it all off was the singing around the Christmas tree that happened at the end of the day today-a lovely event and we are thankful that so many families stayed to join us. Merry Christmas!

  • VE Day Celebrations and end of topic event.

    Wed 13 Dec 2023

It was our pleasure to host a performance for The Veterans Charity showcasing all of our work from the topic A Child’s War. Year 5/6 were lucky enough to be joined by seventeen veterans from different corps within the forces. After the performance, the children were treated to stories from some of the veterans, which really made the learning come to life. The most special of these came from someone who was only 9 years old at the time the war broke out and he confirmed that his experiences of VE Day matched what the children had learnt.

During the performance, the veterans were treated to some dancing, poetry, photos, artwork and lots of information about what we have looked at this term. It was an absolute honour to welcome our guests and the children loved the experience. We look forward to continuing the links with this charity in the future and thank them for coming along.

A huge thank you to Miss Calder for all of her organisation.

  • Girls win their first football match!

    Mon 11 Dec 2023

Wow! What a brilliant first game for the girls’ football team. They all had an amazing time and won 5-4. This means they move into the next round of the cup. Well done everyone!

  • Y5&6 visit Bodmin Keep

    Mon 04 Dec 2023

Over the past three days, the children in UKS2 have spent a day at the Bodmin Keep: Cornwall’s Army Museum where they have been able to explore and learn about Cornwall’s rich military history and heritage. This trip fits in perfectly with the Y5/6 topic: A Child’s War. The children were able to learn about life as a home guard, dress up as soldiers, shop with a ration list, play with WW2 toys and learn how to tie a complex knot military style! The staff at the museum commented on how interested, knowledgeable and well-behaved the children were.
