Bodriggy Academy
Happy children, achieving together.
Some of our latest news. For further information about what our children have been doing, please find our newsletters or our Facebook page using the quick links in the top right hand corner of the homepage of this website. Thank you for looking!
I have been waiting patiently to share this image with you, and although there are one or two tiny finishing touches to be added, I think you'll agree this is an absolutely beautiful piece of artwork and we are so lucky to have it.
Thank you to Miss Champion for all her hard work in creating it - it really does capture what Early Reading here at Bodriggy looks like.
After Christmas we will be holding some parent workshops.
The first for Year 1 parents that talks through what to expect from the Phonics Screening check (testing that takes place in June) and how you can best support your child at home. These will take place on Thursday 19th January - more information to follow.
The second will be for Reception parents to explain what RWI is, how we group the children and how to read with your child at home - date in January to be arranged.
Thank you to the Y6 children who gave up their time to represent the school at Hayle's Remembrance Parade. They were a credit to Bodriggy Academy.
Today, we met local author Alex Fowler. Alex talked us through the process of becoming a writer and publishing books. She showed us her illustrations and explained where she got her ideas from. It was a very inspirational talk and was enjoyed by all. Alex commented on how well our children listened, and the excellent questions that they asked. Some children received one of Alex’s books today after ordering online. Alex will leave the link open for another week, if anyone else would like to buy one.

Yesterday, we embarked on a 3 mile walking tour of Hayle looking at buildings and places that have been in the town for over a hundred years. The children were exceptionally well behaved and loved learning about Hayle in the past. We were also treated to a tasty snack as we passed Philip's Bakery too. It was a lovely way to launch our new topic: Long Ago.
P.S. Thank you to Philp's Famous Pasties for your kind snacks! The children loved them.
Key Stage One launched their new topic, 'Land Ahoy!' in the best way imaginable, with a truly wonderful trip to the Maritime Museum. They learnt about treasures from around the world, famous pirates and raced their very own ships. It was a truly inspiring day. Thank you to all the volunteers who came with us and well done children for being so well behaved!'
Two of our Reading Champions got to select 281 new books from the library van for our school today. Many of the new books will find their way into the library, but a lot of the new books were picture books selected for our EYFS children. Happy reading all!
Today, we were visited by Hayle in Bloom volunteers, Sandie and Richard. They joined us in assembly to award the Nature’s Art Club a Level 5 Outstanding Award for our work on our bug garden, on the King George V Memorial Walk. We also received a nomination for the Clem Preece Cup and The South West in Bloom Outstanding Contribution Youth Award. We are very proud of the children’s effort and enthusiasm during this project. They loved being part of the community and making such a lovely garden for all to enjoy. We are pleased to say will be working with Hayle in Bloom again to support this community effort, for our town, in the near future.
Thank you to all of the children and to Mrs Tredinnick and Miss Bowen for their inspiration and expertise!
Did you catch us on the ITV West Country news this evening? A small group of children sang ‘Penn-bloodh Lowen Kernewek’ (‘Happy Birthday, The Cornish Language’) to support the 20th anniversary of recognition of the Cornish language under the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages. Thank you to Mrs Richings for organising. Well done everyone!
