Happy children, achieving together.
Some of our latest news. For further information about what our children have been doing, please find our newsletters or our Facebook page using the quick links in the top right hand corner of the homepage of this website. Thank you for looking!
Our inaugural 'Bodriggy Speaks' competition took place on Wednesday. We were all so impressed by the children's bravery and composure when delivering their speeches to the whole school. They also did brilliantly when answering questions based on a passage they had read to them. Huge congratulations to Nevaeh for winning and well done to everyone for taking part; the buzz created by all of the speakers was proof enough that we have started a tradition that will continue to grow.
On Wednesday, we held our first Reading Tea Party, where we invited all of our red and brown karate band children to join us for a juice, biscuit and chat about their favourite books. It was a real joy to hear 23 children speak with such enthusiasm about reading, and mention books that I had never heard of: thanks to Kelly in year 1, 'Granny Got a Sprout Stuck Up Her Sneezer' is my new favourite Christmas book!
Thanks to Mrs Richings for organising and to Mrs Hughes for the refreshments!
The Whole School are working super hard to gain their 'Green Flag' Eco-School accreditation and this half term they are taking on the challenge of a sponsored litter pick to raise money to build wormeries in order to reduce food waste and recycle it into something useful.

What a brilliant way to end the week! The whole school was treated to a performance by local theatre group ‘The Cornish Caretakers’ who performed 'Message From Porthcurno'. It is always a treat to watch some live theatre and our children loved the experience. The show was hilarious and educational as it discussed the many forms of communication that have been used throughout history. Some children even got to help out, and some of our pupils took part in a workshop with Ed Rowe Kernow King. Thanks to everyone involved with this performance PK Porthcurno.
There was a lot of excitement in Year 5/6 today. The children enjoyed a carousel of ‘classroom curiosities’, where they explored a range of artefacts - animals, skulls, skeletons, fossils and marine specimens - and sketched them in their Darwin sketchbooks. A special thank you to Donna, who brought in her python to share with the children, Mrs Leggatt, who loaned some artefacts, and Kay from Screech Owl, who gave us so much information linked to our topic about how animals have adapted and evolved over time. We were also lucky enough to have borrowed specimens from others in the community, which we are very grateful for.
What a wonderful morning!
KS1 have had the most wonderful two days visiting local woods gathering inspirational photographs for next week's story writing.
Miss Carroll's class were very lucky and had the added bonus of snow!
Here are a few pictures for you to enjoy.
Thank you to our wonderful PTFA for donating £1500 towards new play equipment for the playgrounds. The children have loved the new opportunities these items have provided and we know that more exciting additions are on their way.
I have been waiting patiently to share this image with you, and although there are one or two tiny finishing touches to be added, I think you'll agree this is an absolutely beautiful piece of artwork and we are so lucky to have it.
Thank you to Miss Champion for all her hard work in creating it - it really does capture what Early Reading here at Bodriggy looks like.
After Christmas we will be holding some parent workshops.
The first for Year 1 parents that talks through what to expect from the Phonics Screening check (testing that takes place in June) and how you can best support your child at home. These will take place on Thursday 19th January - more information to follow.
The second will be for Reception parents to explain what RWI is, how we group the children and how to read with your child at home - date in January to be arranged.
Thank you to the Y6 children who gave up their time to represent the school at Hayle's Remembrance Parade. They were a credit to Bodriggy Academy.
Today, we met local author Alex Fowler. Alex talked us through the process of becoming a writer and publishing books. She showed us her illustrations and explained where she got her ideas from. It was a very inspirational talk and was enjoyed by all. Alex commented on how well our children listened, and the excellent questions that they asked. Some children received one of Alex’s books today after ordering online. Alex will leave the link open for another week, if anyone else would like to buy one.
